1 Kindergarten Teachers.....................................We are looking for strong Christian individuals who love children and enjoy working with young ages. We prefer our teachers to have a degree or credential in teaching young school age children. However, we will consider those that have experience teaching young ages. These children are learning early reading skills and correct pencil grip and formation of letters. Attention to detail and following curriculum is a must. The head teacher gives guidance. Each class also has a teaching assistant as support. Abeka Curriculum and A-Z Reading are used for Language arts, science and social studies. We use the Saxon math curriculum for kindergarten with a variety of manipulative to teach concepts. Positive Action for Christ is used for Bible. Other subjects include P.E./Swimming, computer, art and music. Class size is no more than 18 students. . School begins at 7:15 a.m. and ends at 12:30 p.m. Classes are also multi-cultural. We also use the Accelerated Reading program to reinforce reading and comprehension. We use Houghton Mifflin Grade 2 for mathematics. Other subjects include science, health, social studies, Bible, computer, art, P.E./Swimming and music. Class size is no more than 20. Worldly Wise by Educators Publishing is used for vocabulary skills. We use Saxon for Math and Positive Action for Christ for our Bible Curriculum. Science is Space and Earth and World Geography and the Ancient World by Prentice Hall is used for our 6th grade History program. We also use the Accelerated Reading program. Our teachers also use the computer techworks level 6 for basic computer skills. Next year we will combine our current two fifth grade classes into one class of 25-30 pupils. All grades Kindergarten through 8th grade take a computer classes. Kindergarten through 6th grade have class once a week for 50 min. This is a total of 13 classes. Seventh and Eighth Graders have class twice a week for 50 min. each and there is also the Tech Works computer curriculum in place. Younger grades focus on the parts and names of a computer, language for the computer literate, basic keyboarding/typing skills. Older grades are introduced to word, excel and other programs needed in today’s world as a student. Internet skills are introduced but closely monitored by teacher for projects and research. We use a mixture of curriculum for these classes. We use Write Source, Inc. by Houghton Mifflin. We use the Abeka Grammar and Composition II and III for Grade 8 and 9. We use a variety of chapter books from sonlight and ACSI suggested reading lists for Literature. Prentice Hall is also used for World Literature (10th), American Literature (11th) and British Literature (12th) and poetry sections. Each class reads 6-8 novels a year. Novels are discussed in class, tested on and essays are written. Worldly Wise by Educators Publishing is used for vocabulary skills in all grades mentioned. We use the math 8/7 text for 7th grade Algebra ˝ or Pre-algebra for 8th grade. High School courses include Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, Pre-Calculus, and Calculus. All tests and resource materials are available to the teacher. 7th and 8th grade dismiss by 1:24 p.m. daily. Ninth grade and up dismiss by 2:30 p.m. each day. Classes are half ex-patriot (any other country other than the host country of Malawi) and half Malawian.................................................................Head Swim Coach/Aquatic Director........................................................The ABC Christian Academy opened its 25 meter swimming pool in 2007 and began its swimming program the same year. It is our desire that all our students at the ABC Christian Academy learn how to swim. We now have a swim team (A, B and C) that have 60+ members and a “learn to swim program” or swim lessons (Guppies, Starfish and Sharks) for over 100 little swimmers. The ABC Christian Academy is the only pool in the country with a timing system that includes touch pads/backup buttons and score board system for swimming competitions. The ABC Stingray team is home to many Malawi National Team Swimmers (including 5 in 2013). We are a young and developing team (8 years old to 18 years) and need a coach that can continue to improve our program and swimmers. Swimming is a fairly new sport for Malawi and if you are interested in helping to develop this sport in a developing country and training young swimmers then this may be a good fit for you. We need someone that can organize work outs for our competitive team, help train and organize swim instructors, teach swimming for a 9 week P.E. classes, train life guards and organize swimming competitions.
Compensation and Benefits
We are a missionary organization, and we do require our candidates to raise some of their support. ABCCA will top a teacher up financially, but only up to $1,200 a month. ABCCA will only do this if that teacher has made and effort, and has secured some monthly support. Ex. A teach raises $400 a month from private donors (all donations are tax deductible). ABCCA will pay that teacher $800 a month to get them up to $1,200 a month. Pay scale will be discussed further upon application.
