Saudi Arabia - Teacher 2 in Jeddah
Deidra is a teacher in an international school in Jeddah, Saudi
Arabia. Deidra's last name is withheld because we always recommend
that teachers in the middle east do not publish their last name on the
internet; while things are relatively stable and safe in middle
eastern countries, one can never be too careful, especially Americans.
Here is a profile of Deidra's experience abroad in Saudi Arabia.
1. What do you like about teaching overseas?
What I like most about teaching overseas is being able to meet so
many different people. Working overseas has not only allowed me to
meet different people, but some really nice, cultured travelers as
well. I love that I have the opportunity to be amongst people of all
nationalities, races etc. and learn something from each one.
2. What don't you like (if anything) about teaching overseas?
One thing I do not like about teaching overseas is that communication
can sometimes be an issue. Because I do not speak the native language
it can be a little hard to communicate with someone.
3. What advice would you give to others who are thinking about
teaching overseas? The main piece of advice I would give someone
considering teaching overseas would be to do research. It is important
that you understand what type of place you are going into. A lot of
places overseas maybe different culturally that you may be use to and
sometimes it is a big culture shock. So always research, if it is
possible, speak with someone who may have been to the country that you
are considering going to and get their point of view. But also
remember to be open minded!
4. Would you recommend teaching abroad through Educators Overseas? Why
or why not?
Yes, I would recommend using Educators Overseas when considering
teaching abroad. The recruiters take a genuine interest in the
applicants and make the process as smooth as possible. Educators
Overseas is a well organized program and I have met several teachers
that have also used this program.
